Robert B. Kane 

Robert Kane is a 1967 graduation of Alpena High School, a 1973 graduate of Michigan State University, and a 1978 graduate of Cooley Law School. He was admitted to the Michigan State Bar 1978, sponsored for admission by Justice E. Michael Kavanagh. 


Prior to moving to the Alpena area, Mr. Kane was an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Michigan under the administration of Frank Kelley. Mr. Kane has argued cases in front of the Federal District Court Eastern Division, the Michigan Court of Appeals, and the Michigan Supreme Court.


Mr. Kane specializes in personal injuries, real estate transactions, and family law, as well as automobile accident/personal injury, collections, contract disputes, drunk driving defense, landlord-tenant law, and estate planning.



Mr. Kane has lived in Alpena since 1979 and has five grown children.

David M. Funk, Jr. 

David M. Funk, Jr. is a partner at Kane, Funk, and Poch, P.C. and specializes in criminal defense, both misdemeanor and felony charges, and family law, including divorce and child custody disputes. A graduate of Detroit College of Law, Mr. Funk has been in practice since 1976. Mr. Funk was a former prosecutor for Alpena County and having worked both sides of the aisle, understands the intricate details of criminal defense. He brings to the table knowledge, skill, and effective representation that gets desirable results.

Cristie A. VanMassenhove

Cristie VanMassenhove is an associate attorney at Kane, Funk, and Poch, P.C. A 2004 graduate of Michigan State University, Cristie attended Cooley Law School and graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree in 2008. Cristie joined Kane, Funk, and Poch, P.C. in August of 2011 and specializes in family law, including divorce and child custody disputes; bankruptcy; landlord tenant disputes; contract disputes; and estate planning. Cristie is married to Dan VanMassenhove and have two children. 

Erinn Kane

Erinn Kane joined the firm as an associate attorney in November 2019. An Alpena native, Erinn graduated from MSU in 2008 and started a career in politics, working for late State Representative Peter Pettalia, State Senator John Moolenaar, Congressman Dan Benishek, and State Senator Jim Stamas. In 2016 she changed her career and attended law school. 



Erinn’s practice covers Divorce and Custody matters; Criminal defense; Property disputes; Wills and Trusts; Contract disputes; Landlord-Tenant law; Drunk Driving defense; Driver’s License restorations; and Adoptions.

R. John Poch

John Poch is a 1963 graduate of Alpena High School, a 1970 graduate of Michigan State University, and a 1974 graduate of University of Michigan Law School, cum laude. He served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969.


Mr. Poch was admitted to the Michigan State Bar in 1974 and holds a Certificate of Completion in the areas of probate and estate planning issued by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and Probate and Estates Planning Section of the State Bar of Michigan. In addition, his practice includes contracts, real estate, landlord-tenant disputes, business and corporate law, collections, family law, driver’s license restorations, and criminal law.



Mr. Poch is of counsel at Kane, Funk, and Poch, P.C., and resides with his wife, Harriet, and Grand Lake, Michigan.

Terry Sanders

An Alpena native, Terry moved back to Alpena in 1998 with her husband, Mike Sanders, when he was hired to the Alpena Fire Department. Together they have three children: Caroline, Connor, and Collin. 


Terry enjoys gardening, hiking, and upcycling furniture. 


Terry has been with Kane, Funk, and Poch, P.C. for thirteen years.
